The Spring Grove Community Garden Collective maintains a mid-sized community garden on the grounds of Spring Grove State Hospital Center in Catonsville, Maryland. In addition to individual plots, there are shared perennial flowers, herbs, asparagus beds, an apiary and berry bushes. There is running water throughout the March – December open season, a shed with community tools, and compost bins. The Collective holds potluck suppers, educational seminars garden maintenance days, and donates surplus harvest to a local food bank. Members tend single (12 X 12) or double (12 X 24) plots.
In addition to agreeing to abide by all the terms and conditions, volunteer hours and a small yearly fee are required for membership. There are a limited number of plots available, generally at the beginning of each gardening season. Membership is restricted to those living within the Catonsville/Arbutus community.
