Shipley Community Gardens is a vision of two residents of the Walker House Apartments for seniors and the disabled. Conceived with a desire to grow healthy wholesome fruits and vegetables and build bridges within the community.
The mission of the Shipley Community Gardens is: to provide residents of the neighborhood an opportunity to plant and grow fresh nutritious fruits and vegetables; to teach and empower young people with skills to harvest fresh food from the earth; to enlighten our gardeners on the benefits of healthy eating and developing bonds between seniors and other residents; to bring about postive relations and dialogue and energy with our merchants and the community as we celebrate harvest time.
As seniors in this community, getting to know our neighbors and developing cohesive bonds with common interests gives us an added measure of confidence and security as we move about the community.
