Reedy Creek Park Community Garden, started in 2005, offers gardeners in Charlotte, North Carolina's University City area access to land for growing their own vegetables, herbs and flowers. Currently, the garden is over an acre in size, with 76 plots available on an allotment basis. Most plots measure 20 ft x 20 ft. The garden began as a grassroots project, and is proud of strong and continuing gardener involvement in managing and maintaining the project. Reedy Creek is also a partnership, with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, and NCSU Cooperative Extension providing sponsorship and support. It is located in Reedy Creek Park, a large county park located near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Central Piedmont Community College Cato Campus, site of CPCC's Horticulture Technology Campus. In addition to individual plots, the garden offers shared beds with blueberries, herbs and flowers, and places for gardeners to gather for conversation and socializing. It also is the site for gardening classes sponsored by CPCC, composting classes, and test beds for Organic Gardening Magazine's annual variety trials.
