Olde Allegheny Community Gardens were started in the early 1980's. We have over 40 plots and some gardeners have multiple plots. We garden organically. Individual plots are around 10 x 20 feet. The plots are maintained year to year by the same person/household. Cost is $30 per year. The garden is open to the public as a walkthru and benches are provided. Gardeners are expected to help in the communal areas i.e. outside the fences, pathways, sidewalks. We have water available through a loft building next door and a water pit installed by the city in 2010. In August of 2008 we were recognized by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society with the Community Greening Award.
