"You don't have a garden just for yourself.  You have it to share."
–  Augusta Carter

The Ogdensburg Community Garden Group is a grassroots coalition of individuals, gardens, and community collaborators working to cultivate community gardening and nutritious food access in the City of Ogdensburg.

Ogdensburg Community Garden Group (OCGG) works to build local capacity for community gardening. We strive to create viable on-the-ground conditions for food production within the city limits through advocacy, programming, and resource support. We envision a city characterized by food justice, whereby everyone has access to healthy, safe, affordable, quality, and culturally appropriate food.

The Ogdensburg Community Garden Group believes in:

– Equitable access to healthy, safe, affordable, quality, and culturally-appropriate food
– Community resiliency, diversity, fellowship and collaboration
– Strong, healthy, and safe communities
– Self-sufficiency through access to the means of food production
– Community development through community gardening and urban agriculture
– Diverse participation among the community

The Ogdensburg Community Garden, a project of the Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club, began in the Spring of 2012. The Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club (OBGC) realized residents of the City of Ogdensburg needed another way to access nutritious foods and a community garden could fill that gap. Community gardens reduce household food budgets, bring neighbors together, beautify vacant lots and blighted neighborhoods, increase access to fresh produce, and decrease the travel miles to get food.

The OBGC submitted an application to fund the garden start-up costs to the St. Lawrence Health Initiative and their Creating Healthy Places, to Live, Work and Play project. The Health Initiative, funded the project with their New York State Department of Health funded grant.

With the funds and the efforts, support and vision of numerous civic organizations, businesses, individuals and city officials the garden was erected on a damp cold April day on the shores of the mighty Saint Lawrence River. The Ogdensburg Community Garden, can be found situated on a flat and sunny one acre leased plot at the Fort de la Presentation in the City of Ogdensburg NY just off the NYS Route 68 Arterial Highway.

The Ogdensburg Community Garden Group pledges to build local capacity for community gardening within the limits of the City of Ogdensburg by providing programming, education and resources to Ogdensburg residents interested in neighborhood food cultivation.
