Our mission: 'HRCG is committed to providing the
Hampton Roads community with an opportunity for individuals and
families to become more self- reliant and aware of the importance of
good nutrition and sustainable lifestyle practices through the
provision of communal gardening and composting, a food- share program,
and youth educational activities. HRGC believes that self-reliance
and education will help individuals and families achieve stability and
improve the well- being of the community.'
We have obtained land in Chesapeake for Site I of the gardening
program, and hope to open more sites throughout the seven cities
soon. The community garden (Site I) will be a combination of
facilities: a communal garden (maintained by volunteers), a set of
individual plots (to be maintaind by patrons upon paying a yearly
fee), a composting project, and a foodshare program wherein community
members and volunteers share the produce from the communal garden,
with a portion being distributed to local food banks.
